Owner of a family heritage that combines tradition, innovation, and prestige as main values, Bianchi winery is one of the most outstanding wine companies in Mendoza. Discover its history.
Bianchi winery is one of the pioneers of Mendoza’s winemaking tradition. Its products are recognized in the interior of Argentina as well as in different countries of Europe and America.
Its history begins with the first vineyards that were established in the city of San Rafael, the province of Mendoza. Years later, it incorporated vines in the Uco Valley, an area with the greatest potential for the production of high-quality wines.
History of a tradition
It all began when Don Valentín Bianchi decided to leave behind the small town of Fasano, in Italy, to emigrate to Argentina and settled in San Rafael, Mendoza. He brought with him his entrepreneurial spirit and his will to forge a future in this land.
After years of hard work and perseverance, he managed to have his vineyard and opened a small winery he called El Chiche. This was the starting point of what today has become one of the most outstanding companies in the Argentine wine industry.
Despite having achieved this goal, Don Valentín was not satisfied. As time went by, he imported European grape varieties and adapted them to the climate and soil of the city of San Rafael. His goal was to transform his products into an emblem representing the country.
In 1951 the winery changed its name to Valentín Bianchi and began to expand throughout most of the southern part of the province of Mendoza. Enzo Bianchi, the founder’s son, continued the family tradition.
Although he shared his father’s love for the vines, Enzo went further: he incorporated into the winery’s history a permanent search for innovations to improve the quality of its products.
Enzo was succeeded by his children Valentín, Raúl, and Sylvia who, together with their cousins surnamed Stradella, continued the family legacy. With 90 years of history and more than 3 generations, the Bianchi winery is one of the most recognized and awarded wineries in the world.
Varietals and outstanding wines
In its origins, the winery was dedicated almost exclusively to the production of super médoc and riesling, but with the passing of time and the constant work of the Bianchi family to improve their products, other varietals were incorporated.
Today they produce cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, malbec, merlot and petit verdot.
One of their most recognized wines is Don Valentín Lacrado, considered a true tradition in Argentina. It is a red blend that combines tempranillo, bonarda, and syrah grapes.
Bianchi Particular is another of the company’s star products. It is a wine made from Malbec grapes with red fruit flavor, chocolate, and aromas of vanilla and roasted coffee.
On the other hand, in 2012 the winery launched L10, developed in conjunction with the Leo Messi Foundation. Like the previous example, it is a young, fruity, and balanced Malbec.
