Rutini Winery: a pioneer in the Uco Valley

Rutini wines are recognized worldwide for their excellent quality and high and rigorous winemaking standards. Discover the history of this pioneering winery in the Uco Valley, Mendoza.

In Argentina as well as in other countries around the world, Rutini wines are synonymous with good taste and quality. The history of this winery, a pioneer in the Uco Valley region of Mendoza, begins in the 19th century.

Despite being an old establishment that preserves its traditional seal, with time it incorporated technological advances that led it to be one of the most chosen by wine lovers in different latitudes.

Bodega La Rural, the beginning

Rutini’s history began to be written at the beginning of the 19th century, when Francisco Rutini produced wines in a domestic way for the inhabitants of the city of Ascoli Picceno, in Italy.

His only son, Felipe Rutini, who had graduated as a winemaking technician, emigrated to Argentina to continue the family tradition. He settled in Mendoza and planted the first vines in Coquimbito, in the department of Maipú. He was one of the first to develop this activity in the Upper Uco Valley.

At the end of 1885, he began the construction of La Rural winery, with the motto “Labor et Perserverantia”. His objective was not to produce mass production but to produce high-quality wines.

He partnered with his brother-in-law Angel Cavagnaro and together they formed the Sociedad Anónima Rutini-Cavagnaro. As time went by, they expanded to other regions, as the demand for their products grew day by day.

Philip Rutini passed away in 1919 and the company was dissolved. From that moment on, the company passed into the hands of his descendants, who expanded production and plantations of white and red varieties.

In the 1930s they opened a new estate in Tupungato, confirming the tradition of being a pioneer family in the Uco Valley area.

In the ’90s, the facilities of La Rural in Coquimbito were renovated and incorporated the most advanced technology. The Wine Museum is currently located there, where you can learn about the history of the winery and learn about the techniques implemented by its founder when he started his activities.

Although for several decades the winery La Rural, a pioneer in the Uco Valley area, produced Rutini wines, as of 2011, those responsible for the establishment decided to make a division and constitute it as an independent firm due to the high volume of sales it handled.

From that moment on, Rutini Wines became a reference winery in the local and international market. It produces the Felipe Rutini, Antología, Apartado, Colección Rutini, Encuentro and Trumpeter lines.

Its estates cover more than 400 hectares of vine plantations of different grape varieties, including Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Although each variety has unique characteristics, their common denominator is the professionalism, experience, and knowledge of the field that Bodega Rutini has, which results in excellent quality specimens.
